I'm an artist and illustrator based in South Korea, engaged in diverse creative practices rooted in visual art. I explore forgotten objects, fading spaces, and emotional patterns—reimagining them through collage and layered compositions. With both digital and traditional techniques, I create quiet, experimental worlds that reflect a sense of impermanence and gentle empathy.

나부터 사는 시대(2020)
바야흐로 나부터 사는 시대. 너는 아무렴 그러거나 말거나 나부터 살면 되는 시대. 자신의 굶주림을 이유로 타인의 배고픔 따위는 가소로운 시대. 주목받고자 하는 욕심에 타인의 아픔을 발판으로 올라서는 시대. 욕망의 허기를 채우고자 약자의 생존욕을 저당 잡고 인간의 존엄성마저 짓밟는 시대. 상처 받은 사람들에게 당신이 상처 받을 명분은 충분했고 당신이 모든 손가락질의 빌미를 마련한 것이라며 비난하는 시대. 그저 숨 쉬고, 먹고, 싸면 다 사는 것인가. 그게 정말 사람인가. 그런 생각을 하는 근래. 한숨만 깊다.
The Age of Putting Myself First (2020)
Truly, it is the age of putting myself first. Whether you care or not, it’s enough that I live first. An age where one’s own hunger justifies how ridiculous another’s starvation seems. An age where the desire to be seen climbs upon the pain of others. An age where, to satisfy hunger for desire, we pawn the weak’s will to survive, trampling even the dignity of being human. An age where the wounded are told: you had every reason to be hurt—and so you deserve the blame. Is breathing, eating, and excreting all it takes to call it life? Is that truly what it means to be human? Such thoughts have been with me lately. And with them—deeper and deeper sighs.

횡단보도에서 새는 죽었다(2019)
길을 걷다 횡단보도에서 비둘기가 죽은 것을 보았다. 땅을 보고 걷는 습관이 이렇게 비극적인 순간을 맞닥뜨리게 할 줄이야. 원래의 생김새를 알 수 없을 정도의 모습이었다. 아마도, 차에 치여 죽은 모양새였다. 그 새는 횡단보도에서 자신이 죽을 줄 상상이나 하였을까? 저와 똑같이 생긴 날개 달린 것들이 하늘 대신 땅을 걷는 것을 보고, 아마도 새는 하늘에 머물기보다 땅에 머물기를 선택했으리라. 하늘에서 먹이를 찾지 않고, 땅에서 배를 채우는 일이 당연하다 생각했을지도 모른다. 나는 그날 횡단보도에서 죽은 새를 보고 나의 죽음을 상상했고, 나의 삶을 잠시간 회고했다. 나도 어쩌면 그 새가 아닐까. 자신의 모습을 모른 채, 나와 비슷하게 생긴 형상들의 꼴을 찾아, 닮아 살아가려 아득바득 애를 쓰며 살아가는 나의 모습을 보니 그 새와 별반 다를 게 없다.
The Bird Died at the Crosswalk(2019)
As I was walking, I saw a pigeon lying dead at a crosswalk. Who would’ve thought my habit of looking down while walking would lead me to such a tragic scene? It was in such a state that I could no longer make out what it had originally looked like. It must have been hit by a car. Could that bird have imagined it would die on a crosswalk? Perhaps it saw others just like itself—winged creatures walking the ground instead of flying—and chose to stay on the ground too, rather than in the sky. Maybe it believed it was only natural to feed from the earth, not the air. That day, seeing the dead bird at the crosswalk, I imagined my own death. And for a brief moment, I reflected on my life. Maybe I’m no different from that bird. Unaware of what I truly am, I try so hard to resemble the others who look like me—those who move in familiar shapes— and in doing so, I struggle on, not realizing I’ve lost sight of myself.
장 그르니에의 '섬'이라는 책에는 플로티누스가 말하는 두가지 죽음에 대해 나온다. 그는 죽음을 두가지로 구분한다. 그 하나는 자연적인 죽음이요, 다른 하나는 자연적인 죽음에 앞서 올 수 있는 철학적인 죽음이다. 그렇다면 나는 살아있는 채로 죽은 걸지도 모른다. 내 주변의 어떤이들도 이미 죽음을 맞이한 채로 살아가고 있는지도. 죽음과 삶이라는 명제는 어쩌면, 그저 허울뿐일 수도. 나는 죽은채로 살아가고, 살면서도 죽은듯이 살아간다.
In Jean Grenier’s book The Island, there is a passage about the two kinds of death that Plotinus speaks of. He distinguishes between natural death and another kind of death — a philosophical one that may come before the natural end. If that’s true, perhaps I am already dead while still alive. Perhaps those around me are also living their lives already having met their own deaths. The ideas of death and life — perhaps they are nothing more than hollow shells. I live as though dead, and live on as though I have already died.

누군가와 함께 여정을 시작할 때 꼭 필요한 준비물이 있다. 그것은 '거짓말'이다. 진실하자는 것만큼 기가 막힌 거짓말도 없다. 내 앞에서 만큼은 솔직해져도 괜찮다고 말하는 사람들의 대부분은, 실은 불안한 사람이 아닐까. 난 그를 만나는 내내 한치의 거짓도 없었다. 그 투명한 진실은 사실 그가 원하던 진실이 아니었던 것이다. 그는 나에게 실망했고, 나는 나의 솔직함이 부끄러웠다. 그 소년을 위한 여자를 만들어주고 싶다. 추한 진실도 연약하고 아름다운 거짓말로 잘 꾸며낼 수 있는 사람으로.
A Woman for the Boy

When embarking on a journey with someone, there is one essential thing you must bring: a "lie." There is no more absurd lie than the notion of being entirely truthful. Most people who say, "It's okay to be honest with me," are probably the ones who are truly anxious. Throughout my time with him, I was completely honest, with not a single lie. However, that transparent truth was not the truth he wanted. He was disappointed in me, and I felt ashamed of my honesty. I want to create a woman for that boy—a person who can transform even ugly truths into delicate and beautiful lies.

나는 매번 괜찮다는 말들로 상대방의 마음을 안심시켰지만, 지나와 생각하자니 그러한 나의 언행들이 과연 올바른 것이었나 의문이 든다. 불편한 순간을 빨리 벗어나고자 나는 상대에게도, 자신에게도 거짓말을 해버린 것이었다. 괜찮지 않았지만 괜찮다고 말하는 그 순간의 몇 곱절만큼이나 나는 나의 괜찮지 않음이 쌓이고 쌓여 한 귀퉁이가 허망하게 갉아져 버린 나를 문득 깨닫고야만다. 우리는 그렇게 어떤 틈바구니 안에서 같이를 위한 자의식을 살인하면서 버텨내고 있는 것은 아닐까.

I have always reassured others with words like "I'm fine," but now, looking back, I question whether my actions and words were truly right. In moments of discomfort, I hastily tried to escape, lying both to the other person and to myself. Though I said I was fine, I was not. And in that moment, I realized that my unspoken "I'm fine" piled up and wore me down, until I suddenly found a part of myself eroded and hollow. I wonder, are we not all enduring within some gap, sacrificing our own awareness for the sake of togetherness?

The idea that illusion is an escape from life and a way to avoid direct confrontation with it is nothing more than a narrow, prejudiced mistake. Where do we draw the strength to confront life head-on and overcome despair? It must come from illusions or phantoms that are dark, damp, and unrecognizable, but which appear in different forms to each person. Our mental framework originates from illusion. 셀 수 있는 하나의 개체로 보이는 것은 실은 셀 수 없다. 가늠할 수 없는 무수한 것들의 집합체가 우리의 눈에 하나로 보이는 것이다. 사물의 본질은 눈에 보이는 것만으로는 판명할 수 없다. 식물의 단면을 확대하여 바라보았을 때의 이미지를 디지털 콜라주 하여 꽃의 이미지를 형상화하였다. 이를 통해 보는 이로 하여금 우리가 마주했던 사물들의 실제 모습에 대해 다시 한번 골몰하였으면 한다.
What appears to be a single, countable object is, in fact, uncountable—a convergence of innumerable, immeasurable elements that our eyes perceive as one. The essence of an object cannot be determined by appearance alone. In this artwork, I created digital collages by magnifying and assembling cross-sectional images of various plants, reimagining them into floral forms. Through this process, I hope viewers will pause and reconsider the true nature of the things we so often take for granted.
